Rapid development of technologies and their penetration into all sectors generates a wide range of streamlining of production and trade processes. Electronic commerce is the area in which information and communication technology (ICT) is an essential and indispensable element. It is based on the use of e-commerce systems. An e-commerce system combines several parts consisting of customers, suppliers (sellers, dealers, producers, businessmen, etc.), the web server (web interface), the information system (ERP, CRM, the database system), the payment system, the dispatch system and the legislature itself. All these subsystems must be managed both at the operational level and in terms of the whole e-commerce system. E-commerce systems are tools meant to support the supply chain (SC), the quality of which as well as other parts of the e-commerce system largely depend on management processes representing supply chain management (SCM). The optimal way to ensure the success of SCM is to use the methods of modelling and simulation based on appropriate models and mathematical representation of a real SC. Such models are constructed with the use of process and value-chain oriented approaches or based on the concept of multi-agent systems. Different types of models in conjunction with a suitable mathematical representation allow us to perform the simulation process which outputs can help managers make suitable decisions. The paper aims at presenting contemporary approaches to the supply chain modelling within e-commerce systems. Moreover, the case study emphasized hereby is oriented to present the sample simulation approach in order to find the optimal allocation of resources which are meant to minimize shipping costs.e-commerce system, supply chain, supply chain management, warehouse, allocation of resources

The present state of world economy urges managers to look for new methods, which can help to start the economic growth. To achieve this goal, managers use standard as well as new procedures. The fundamental prerequisite of the efficient decision-making processes are actual and right information. Managers need to monitor past information and current actual information to generate trends of future development based on it. Managers always should define strictly what do they want to know, how do they want to see it and for what purpose do they want to use it. Only in this case they can get right information applicable to efficient decision-making. Generally, managers´ decisions should lead to make the customers´ decision-making process easier. More frequently than ever, companies use e-commerce systems for the support of their business activities. In connection with the present state and future development, cross-border online shopping growth can be expected. To support this, companies will need much better systems providing the managers adequate and sufficient information. This type of information, which is usually multidimensional, can be provided by the Business Intelligence (BI) technologies. Besides special BI systems, some of BI technologies are obtained in quite a few of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems. One of the crucial questions is whether should companies and firms buy or develop special BI software, or whether they can use BI tools contained in some ERP systems. In respect of this, there is a question if the modern ERP systems can provide the managers sufficient possibilities relating to ad-hoc reporting, static and dynamic reports and OLAP analyses. A one of the main goals of this article is to show and verify Business Intelligence tools of Microsoft Dynamics NAV for the support of decision-making in terms of the cross-border online purchasing. Pursuant to above-mentioned, in this article authors deal with problems relating to managers´ decision-making, customers´ decision-making and a support of its using the BI tools contained in ERP system Microsoft Dynamics NAV. A great deal of this article is aimed at area of multidimensional data which are the source data of e-commerce systems.Business Intelligence, decision-making, e-commerce system, cross-border online purchasing, multi-dimensional data, reporting, data visualization

Business Cost Modelling of Information Processing in Supply Chain Units

The paper analyzes and successively assesses the problem of information delays in a sample logistics system, in which customer inquiries are sent to adjacent or dedicated units in the logistics chain. Within such a framework time and unit costs of customer service and inquiry are analyzed. A detailed model of the logistics system is thus elaborated using a mathematical approach and its graphical representation. The accompanying case study includes the analysis of the detailed situation in which two models are compared that do not differ in the structure of logistic units but are characterized by different information flow paths. Simulation results are presented through a thorough graphic, numerical and descriptive analysis. Finally, the problem of information transmission in the logistics system is summarized

    Self-learning Bayesian Networks in Diagnosis

AbstractThe article presents the main bases of artificial intelligence, probabilistic diagnostic methods, development of the diagnostic database and diagnostic base of knowledge and Bayesian networks as a base of the diagnostic self-learning systems which are commonly used in medicine to recognize diseases on the basis of symptoms. Probabilistic models of diagnostic networks are based on the Bayesian formulas. These formulas let us determine probabilities of causes on the basis of probabilities of results. This is the reason why databases must be created and adequate probabilities determined. Results of this research are then analyzed by means of statistical methods

Heuristic Algorithms for Manufacturing and Replacement Strategies of the Production System

Abstract: The paper highlights the problem of minimizing economic costs of making orders in the automated manufacturing system which consists of work centres arranged in a series. Each of them is equipped with tools which carry out defined manufacturing operations. Tools are replaced with new ones only when no manufacturing operation can be performed any more in order to minimize the residual pass. The equations of state of the production line are presented and heuristic control strategies are discussed in detail. The criterion is to minimize the number of replacement procedures which results in maximizing the use of tools in work centres. To prove the correctness of the presented approach the paper is supported with an extended simulation study based on implementing available combinations of either manufacturing or replacement strategies taking into account various configurations which come into being in the real manufacturing environment. The simulation results form the basis for the detailed analysis to meet the requirements of the applicable decision-making procedures
